Dan Mathers is a freelance journalist and editor, and he is the publisher of the online New England travel and adventure magazine SixStates.net. He is a former associate editor for Offshore magazine (now Northeast Boating), and he has been published in such magazines as Adirondack Life, Cape Cod Life, and South Shore Living. In all, he has 12 years of experience writing news and feature articles for newspapers and magazines. He also has 10 years of experience as an editor.

Dan began his journalism career as a reporter for Suburban World Newspapers, where he covered everything from murders to zoning board meetings in Boston suburbs. He later became the editor of the Westwood Press, a weekly newspaper, where he generated story ideas, edited stories, laid-out the newspaper, and continued to write news and feature stories. In 2000, Dan took the job of associate editor at the recreational boating magazine Offshore. In addition to writing for the magazine, he generated story ideas, was involved in all aspects of editorial planning, and was editor for several departments and two feature stories per month.

He left his full-time position with Offshore in January 2003 to stay home with his newborn daughter. He remained with the magazine as an editor-at-large through October 2003, before deciding to pursue a freelance journalism and editorial career full-time. Dan enjoys outdoors sports such as hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing and kayaking. And in 2006 he launched the online New England travel and adventure magazine SixStates.net.
